UNIVERSITY RUGBY DEVELOPMENT GRANTS 2022-23

Thank you for showing interest in the University Rugby Development Grant 2022-23.

There are two distinct strands of support available for this coming academic year: 

 

LEARN open July to 27th September 2022

PLAY open September to 9th October 2022 
 

LEARN

Learn

Funding is available to support the development of the university rugby workforce to attend RFU courses for coaches & officials.  

  • There is one application window running alongside the RFU course booking window July to early 27th September 2022

 

  • Complete the simple SRFU Learn form letting us know the names of those you are booking on

 

  • Applicants need to book and pay for their course through the RFU system. All courses for 22/23 go live for booking on the 8th July and will close early September: BOOK HERE

 

  • On receipt of an invoice and course confirmation/booking reference the SRFU will reimburse 2/3rds (£50 of the £75) of the course cost. 

England Rugby Coaching Award - (equivalent old L2) 2 days + monthly webinars and online community of practice. Entry point for those coaching U12 and above. Provides coaches with the knowledge, skills and attributes to safely and effectively coach young players and adults.

England Rugby Refereeing Award - (equivalent old L2) 2 days + monthly webinars and online community of practice. Entry point for those refereeing U12 and above. Provides referees with the knowledge, skills and attributes to safely and effectively referee young
players and adults.


NB. Eligible participants who attended Introduction to Refereeing (otherwise known as a pre-ERRA) will be offered a free place on ERRA and will be contacted directly by the RFU via email.

PLAY

Play

We want every person that wants to play rugby whist at university, to be handed that chance.


This grant is primarily designed to support University clubs grow participation and retain players in the game by creating more capacity and opportunity through additional recreational/intra-mural or community rugby activity. This season we are looking for applications focused on:

 

  • Delivery of local playing opportunities to support adult male players to return to the Game e.g. mid-week fixtures using Game On, triangular fixtures, intramural etc.

  • Supporting Community Clubs to establish links with University Clubs.

  • Initiative to welcome and retain new student players e.g. running welcome events, providing transport links between Universities and Clubs. 

We have a funding pot of £100-£750 per application.  All SRFU affiliated University Rugby clubs including Partner/Cluster institutions and welcomed to apply.

  • Applications open September 1st for 5 weeks and close Midnight Sunday 9th October

  • SRFU Panel will review applications and ask any clarification questions w/c 10th October

  • Decision communicated w/c 17th October 2022

Budget:
You will need to submit a basic expenditure summary for your project. Please download the spreadsheet (or you can use your own) and email to info@studentsrfu.com.

Applications that do not include a completed budget template will be considered only if funds allow following allocations to fully completed applications. 

 


Please consider how much you need to apply for, are you able to secure discounts, value in kind or matched funding to support the project, as well as the return on investment (i.e. how many people are likely to benefit from this project).  Also consider the sustainability of your activity and how you will cover costs longer term.
 

What we need in return:
All successful grant recipients will be sent a template for reporting the number of students benefitting from the grant, as well as submitting a case study for future use by the SRFU. 

Payment:
If your grant application is successful, the SRFU will make payment upon receipt of an invoice.
