UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH SQUAD DEVELOPMENT
Date: July 2023
The University of Plymouth Women’s Rugby Club puts inclusivity and player development at the forefront, working to foster a culture that allows everyone to feel welcome.
They take pride in promoting the achievements of women in sport and cultivating safe spaces for all women, especially those who haven’t always felt welcome in mainstream women’s sports.
For the 2022-23 season, the club were successful in applying for a grant to put towards squad development, with an emphasis on those newer to the game. Their funding has meant they have been able to increase and improve the standard of coaching at the club, bringing on board current Exeter Chiefs Women’s players, as well as add another training session a week and set up development games.
Extra coaches and sessions has meant the club can cater for all abilities and strengths, with new players getting more game time alongside returning players being able to push to a higher intensity.
“The club genuinely cares for all our members, and so listens and values our member’s feedback to focus on what’s best for the club.” - Millie, Treasurer
“Training on a Monday night with the team is the highlight of my week. Everyone comes together and works hard with each other to be the best we can.” - Sophie, player
