The 2022 England Students Fixture against the French Universities is now set to be played at 3pm Friday the 22nd of April 2022 at Kingston Park.
After two years without an international fixture in the English university game, the Students’ RFU are thrilled to be supporting the England Students programme for another season.
Kingston Park will be hosting the two National University squads, bringing a buzz to the North-East home of the Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle Thunder.
Jean-Philippe, Director of the French Federation added: “After two blank years without any international fixtures because of the pandemic, it is now time to rebound and the idea to meet our English friends again fills us up with joy. The competition between our two nations constitutes much more than a simple game: it is a true tradition, based on a strong and historical partnership between the French University Sports Federation and the RFU Students Rugby. By working together to develop and cast the light on university rugby, our two federations have enabled many generations of players to experience unique and privileged moments. Next April we will write a new page of our history in Newcastle. Wishing to perpetuate history for a very long time. Vive le rugby universitaire, vive le crunch!”
The programme played an important role in the professional pathway of many generations of university players, providing a unique experience and privileged moments.
Players wearing the England Students shirt in the last encounter have since become familiar names in the premiership and beyond; Fitz Harding Bristol Bears, Jack Kenningham Harlequins, Yaree Fantini Benneton Treviso in Italy, Conrad Cade and George Wacokecoke both Newcastle Falcons.
The French have acquired many wins through the renowned French flair, which is assured to be shown on the grounds at Kingston Park. England Students have beaten their French counterparts for the first time, the last time they met – and, led by Head Coach Darren Fearn, they are ready to repeat the win in 2022.
