England Students Women Gear Up for UKAF Clash in Summer Showpiece

The England Students Women’s rugby team is gearing up for a thrilling return to the pitch this summer. Following an impressive relaunch in 2025, the side will face the UK Armed Forces Women in a highly anticipated fixture on Saturday 11 July, with the match venue to be confirmed soon.

The squad will be hosted by UKAF at Aldershot for their week‑long camp — a historic home of military sport and an inspiring high‑performance environment as the team prepares for the fixture.

The 2026 programme will run week commencing 6 July to 12 July, bringing together top university players from across England for an intensive training camp, culminating in this showcase match.

A Strong Comeback in 2025 Sets the Stage

Last summer, England Students Women made a powerful statement on their return after a 20‑year absence, securing a dominant 74–22 victory over UKAF. The match highlighted the team’s attacking quality, with a hat‑trick from Grace White and four tries from Ellen Scantlebury leading an outstanding all‑round performance.

That result marked an exciting new chapter for the programme — one that continues to grow in strength and visibility within the women’s game.

The England Students Women’s programme plays a crucial role in developing the next generation of female rugby talent, providing a high‑performance environment that bridges the gap between university rugby and the international stage. The fixture against UKAF is more than just a game, it is a platform for growth and exposure for players looking to progress their careers.

Progression seen from last year’s ESW cohort:

  • Jodie Verghese: Saracens contract, England senior squad call-up, selected for U21 Six Nations (2026)

  • Grace White: Selected for U21 Six Nations (2026)

  • Alessia Skeates: Exeter contract, Italy U21 cap (dual eligibility)

  • Ellen Scantlebury: Exeter contract and selected into GB Sevens (national programme)

  • Amy Dale: Signed with Bristol Bears

  • Lola Whitley: Signed with Exeter Chiefs

  • Eloise Harris: Signed with Gloucester-Hartpury and has featured in Premiership fixtures

Now, with preparations based in Aldershot and anticipation building around where this year’s fixture will be staged, the countdown to July is firmly underway.

Stay tuned for further announcements on the squad and match venue. Mark your calendars for 11 July and get ready for a memorable day of women’s university rugby.
